Dermatology at GP London W1

Dermatology

At GP London W1, we can diagnose and treat a range of dermatological conditions, including eczema, acne, and rashes, in both adults and children.

We understand only too well that skin problems can have a real impact on your physical and emotional wellbeing, and that you don’t always want to wait for referral to a specialist to find out whether a condition has serious implications.

While referral may still be necessary for some procedures, we also have a range of options to allow us to provide a diagnosis in the clinic and put your mind at rest.

GP London W1’s Dr Shuting Xiong’s initial interest was in dermatology, and she secured a dermatology training role at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, before becoming a GP. This training has enabled her to develop a broad expertise across a range of skin conditions.

She can offer expert assessment and management, and can arrange further investigations or onward referral when needed.

Skin Conditions We Treat

Here are just a few of the skin conditions we can diagnose and treat here at GP London W1. If you are concerned about one of these or about any other skin condition, please contact us to find out how we can help.

Changes to the size, colour, or texture of a mole can be a significant cause of stress for some of our patients, and we find that many people prefer to have this checked in a familiar setting with a doctor they know, rather than be referred directly to a dermatologist.

A dermoscope provides a magnified view of the affected area, allowing us to assess these changes up close. If we are still not entirely happy after viewing the mole with the dermoscope, we may need to refer you to a dermatologist for a biopsy; however, often this procedure allows us to offer reassurance straightaway, without the need for referral.

Although most common in adolescence, acne can continue into adulthood. This is known as chronic acne and can cause considerable distress for sufferers. However, there are some highly effective treatments available to help you manage the condition, both oral and topical.

Rosacea is a skin condition that is characterised by broken blood vessels and inflamed skin, particularly around the nose and cheeks. In some cases, rosacea can occur alongside acne, a condition known as acne rosacea. As the condition presents differently for different people, a one-to-one consultation with a doctor specialising in skin conditions is advisable to determine the best treatment for you.

Dermatitis is a catch-all term for a range of skin conditions characterised by a red, itchy rash and broken skin. It can be caused by an allergic reaction or irritation (known as contact dermatitis), or by an inherited condition (atopic dermatitis). Atopic dermatitis is often referred to as eczema. Whichever type you have, dermatitis can be sore and uncomfortable. As with the conditions mentioned above, the ideal treatment regime varies from patient to patient, and speaking to a specialist doctor can help you to find the one that works for you.
